David DePriest

David DePriest is the Assistant Director of Bands at McGavock High School.

Mr. DePriest is a proud alumni of the McGavock High School Band, where he was section leader and a member of the Tennessee All-State Band. His experience, talent, and participation in different percussion opportunities lead him to earn a scholarship to Tennessee Technological University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Music Education, was a member of the Golden Eagle Marching Band, Cactus Pete Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Trouveres Jazz Ensemble, and Tech Orchestra. While studying under the late Joseph Rassmussen, Mr. DePriest won the 1983 Concerto Competition and performed as a marimba soloist with the Tech Community Orchestra.  

Mr. DePriest has been instructing award-winning drumlines in the Middle Tennessee Area since he was 16 years old. He was a member of the McGavock Band staff in 1982 and 1989 when the band won first place at the Contest of Champions!  In addition to teaching the McGavock drumline, he has also instructed Overton High School, Franklin High School, DeKalb County High School, Mt. Juliet High School, Gallatin High School and many other drumlines.  During his college career, Mr. DePriest marched snare drum with the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps in the summers of 1983 and 1985.  He has also performed with Music City Legend Drum & Bugle Corps, where he won first place in the Drum Corps Association Solo Competition on timpani in 2007.  

Mr. DePriest has most recently instructed, arranged, and written music for the Vanderbilt University Spirit of Gold Marching Band for the past 7 years, and was the World Percussion Instructor at McMurray Middle School.  In his spare time, Mr. DePriest has traveled all over the United States and Europe playing drums professionally with various musical groups.  He has also been a member of the Nashville Wind Ensemble. 

In addition to his ensemble coaching, Mr. DePriest has had many private students throughout the years that have gone on to teaching, playing, and receiving thousands of dollars in scholarships to universities all over the country.
