| Sam is a percussion educator having consulted, instructed, and arranged for several junior high, middle school, high school, and university programs in addition to having presented numerous clinics around the United States. Sam is a widely known percussion education specialist in the Western United States where he was rigorously involved in spreading the awareness of percussion in the public school systems. He is also a private instructor teaching students of all age levels and talent levels.
Sam has played in numerous percussion ensembles and symphonies and he has been involved in the drum corps activity ( Drum Corps International ) since 1987 both as a marching member and a percussion staff member. He was the Staff Coordinator and Director of Percussion for the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps from Casper, Wyoming from 1997-2001 as well as the Director of Marching Percussion at Weber State University from 2000-2001. Sam was on the percussion faculty at The University of Nevada-Reno in Reno, Nevada from 2001-2005. He taught at McQueen High School in Reno from 2001-2007 where they won the high drum trophy for 9 out of the past 10 years. Sam is currently on the percussion staff at McGavock High School in Nashville, TN and he is also a staff member on Thom Hannum's Mobile Percussion Seminar.
Sam has presented seminars at several state music educators' conferences such as “How to Keep Your Drummers Out of Trouble” and "I Have a Percussion Class, Now What Do I Do With It?" He also performed on the soundtrack for the Interplay CD Rom Title, “Star Fleet Command” written by Ron Jones.
Sam is an artist/clinician/educator for the Avedis Zildjian Cymbal Company, Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets, Remo, Incorporated, Pearl Corporation and is an active member of The Percussive Arts Society . Sam was most recently a sales representative for the Pearl Corporation from from June 2007 through August 2009.
