Meet the McGavock Band Visual designer:

Jamey Thompson

Jamey Thompson has been involved in the activity as a performer, designer or adjudicator for twenty-five years. He is currently visual designer for competitive high school marching bands in Arizona, Indiana, Ohio, Texas, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia.

Jamey is currently the Visual Designer for Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps from Rockford, Illinois, the Empire Statesmen Senior Drum & Bugle Corps from Rochester, New York and Momentum Percussion Theatre from Gilbert, AZ. Previously, he designed for the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps and the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps.

Jamey marched in The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps and Winterguard. He is a member of the Midwest Judges Guild, judging marching bands and winterguards throughout the country. He received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Loyola University Chicago and passed the CPA Exam. After working in public accounting for a few years he turned his focus to not-for-profit accounting and management where he was the Managing Director of Windy City Performing Arts. He also serves as a free-lance accountant to a variety of businesses in the Chicago area.

Jamey's drills are both brilliant and complex yet can look effortless in their approach. His obvious skills and good-natured approach have quickly gained the respect and confidence of both the marching members and his fellow staff mates.

Vital Statistics:
Age: 38
Family: I grew up in Binghamton, New York where my mom still lives. I have an older brother in North Carolina and a younger sister in Atlanta (both are married) and I am an uncle to a three year old boy.

Education: Graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 1990 with a BBA/emphasis in Certified Public Accounting. Passed the CPA Exam in November 1990.

Current occupation:
Visual designer for marching bands, drum corps and winter drum lines. Also do some free-lance accounting on the side (when I can.)

Drum corps background: My brother was 5 years older than me and my parents would take me to band contests when I was pretty young. I was a band geek from a very early age. I couldn't wait to be in the band. I played saxophone (badly) and was drum major my senior year.

My first memories of drum corps are the 1978 Bridgemen. In 1980, when I was a freshman in high school, some older students had videos of that DCI broadcast they would play in the band room. I was hooked immediately. The baritone soloist from that year, Al Dicroce, is now a good friend of mine.

Marching: Cavaliers 1985-1987 and Cavaliers Winterguard 1985, 1988 and Schaumburg Guardsmen Winterguard in 1987. Teaching: Glassmen 1997- 2002, Madison Scouts 2003-2004, Empire Statesmen Senior Corps 2001- present and now the Phantom Regiment!
